SCAR-FOCUSED CARE

Why are old scars included on intake forms?

Scars can continue to influence movement, tissue tension, and comfort long after healing.

Sharing past scars helps your therapist understand your body more fully and plan care safely and effectively.

Do you work with surgical scars?

Yes — when it is appropriate and healing is complete.

Scar-focused massage therapy may be included as part of care depending on the type of surgery and stage of recovery. In some situations, medical clearance may be requested to ensure treatment is safe and well-timed.

Is scar-focused work painful?

Treatment is always adapted to your comfort level.

Some people notice mild sensations as tissues respond, but care is never meant to be forceful or overwhelming. Your feedback guides every session.

How soon after surgery can massage therapy begin?

Timing varies based on healing and medical guidance.

Once tissues have closed and healing is progressing well, scar-focused care may be introduced gradually. You may be asked to confirm clearance from your healthcare provider to ensure the best outcomes.

Are there times when scar-focused massage is not appropriate?

For safety, massage therapy is not provided over:

• open or unhealed wounds

• active infections

• fresh surgical sites

• unresolved skin conditions

Care may be postponed until healing is complete, and in some cases medical clearance may be requested to confirm readiness for treatment.
