CONCUSSION / HEAD INJURY CONSIDERATIONS

A soccer player lies on the field clutching his head in pain, while another teammate leans over him in concern.

Do you treat concussions?

Massage therapy does not diagnose or treat concussions themselves.

However, care may be provided to support soft-tissue discomfort, tension, and related symptoms when it is clinically appropriate and safe to do so.

Is massage therapy safe after a concussion?

Every recovery is different.

Safety depends on your current symptoms, stage of healing, and any medical guidance you’ve received. Intake screening is always completed, and care may be adjusted, postponed, or deferred to support your well-being.

What if my symptoms worsen after a session?

Please let your therapist know about any changes right away.

Treatment is always adapted based on how your body responds, and medical follow-up may be recommended if needed.

Do I need medical clearance before massage therapy for a concussion or head injury?

In some situations, yes.

Medical clearance may be required depending on the nature of the injury, your current symptoms, and where you are in recovery. Patients are responsible for confirming any restrictions or clearance requirements with their physician or specialist before treatment.

Massage therapy is provided only when it is clinically appropriate and may be postponed if clearance cannot be confirmed.
