Scope of Practice
What Massage Therapy Does Not Do
Massage therapy does not:
• Diagnose medical conditions
• Replace medical care or rehabilitation programs
• Provide medical clearance
• Guarantee specific outcomes
For safety, care may be adjusted or postponed when there is:
• Active infection or inflammation
• Unhealed surgical areas or compromised skin integrity
• Situations where treatment would not be clinically appropriate
These decisions are always made to protect patient wellbeing.
Massage therapy care includes:
Thoughtful assessment and hands-on treatment of soft tissues and related structures
Conservative, symptom-guided manual therapy
Ongoing adaptation based on comfort, presentation, and consent
Individualized care that evolves session by session
Each appointment is paced to support safety, tolerance, and meaningful progress.
Clinical Focus Areas (Non-Diagnostic)
Massage therapy care may support individuals experiencing:
• Jaw or TMJD-related muscular tension and discomfort
• Post-surgical or post-procedural scar sensitivity or restriction
• Post-injury or post-concussion-type physical strain where massage therapy is appropriate
These descriptions reflect presentation and function — not medical diagnosis.
Treatment Approach
Care is guided by:
• Gentle, conservative pacing
• Comfort-based pressure and positioning
• Ongoing communication and feedback
• External manual therapy with optional adjunct tools when appropriate
• Regular reassessment to tailor each session
Every treatment plan is personalized and adjusted to how the body responds over time.
